Research for the “Ash Roots” book back in 2000, threw up some interesting photographs of large crowds involved with croquet on the Vicarage lawn. The lawn remains, even though the collar and tie (and capped!) participants do not.
In the idyllic setting of the Shropshire countryside at this beautifully restored Victorian property, it was felt appropriate to try and resurrect the activity. So on the first Thursday at 2pm during the summer months please join fellow villagers in their attempts to repeat history.
No-one knows the rules, but we are all willing to learn and have a laugh in the process. Tea and cake available for the usual £1. What could be more English?
